NIGERIAN
CURRICULUM
The
Nigerian curriculum provides opportunities for students to study different
subjects, ranging from junior to senior secondary schools.
Basically, at junior and senior levels, the Nigerian Educational Research and
Development Council (NERDC) is charged with the responsibility to develop the
curriculum.
At,
students in the final class of junior secondary school (JSS3) write the
mandatory exam set by Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)/ Education
Resource Centre (ERC). Likewise, at the end of senior secondary school,
attention is given to external exams conducted by accredited bodies such as
National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The school also emphasizes
extracurricular activities in sports, music, Arts and Culture, Volunteer work
and Community Service.
Junior
Secondary Section (Years 7 - 9)
All subjects contained in the
National Curriculum of the Nigerian National Policy on Education are taught in
the School for years 7 to 9 (JS 1 to JS 3) to prepare students for the NECO
Junior Secondary Certificate Examination and the Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria
Junior Secondary Certificate Examination. The subjects are: English Studies,
Literature in English, Social Studies, Basic Science (Chemistry, Physics,
Biology), Business Studies, Book-Keeping & Accounts, Mathematics,
Agricultural Science, French, Basic Technology, Computer Studies, Physical
& Health Education, Home Economics, Christian Religious Studies, Fine Arts,
Music and Citizenship Education.
